My parents aren’t rich, I would say I grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood. I’m not rich either.

My dad was middle-class. He's a retired anthropology and sociology college professor who was also chairman of the board.

He didn't like spending money on me unless it was something I sorely needed.

I grew up poor. Lived on "food stamps" or whatever for a while. One income family.

I didn't even really know I was poor, I had everything I needed. My ch*ldhood wasn't that bad aside from quite a few examples of unpleasant things and the fact that a lot of it I cannot remember.

Oh shut up.

Both my parents worked and had a lot of money. Father was military and then retired with so much disability he was making phat bank, and a hefty savings. But he was stingy. Mom made out good but spent it all on booze. I pretty much lived in my room cuz I could never get them to drive me to see friends. >__> 15 years later, still salty

I grow up in a Military family, my dad was in the US Army up until I was around 15 years old. There were times  ,my mom would have to stretch meals.  She did get jobs on post. The real lean times were when my dad was ordered to go to Vietnam, that's when money was tight.  I remember eating Ketchup sandwiches

…so you are like…50-60 years old?

Didn’t people who served in Nam get paid extra? I’m confused.

I think this is just like what I had. I think at a very young age, I learnt when is and is not appropriate to ask for stuff, as well as what my parents would definitely not want me to have. So I never asked for much, so I wasn't really spoilt. But now that I have a pretty good paying job (higher than the national average in the UK where I'm from, and China where I work), I can see a lot more how much better off I am now compared to my parents, even before they had ch*ldren

As far as I know and remember they didn't but I could be wrong. Have to ask my brother, my 2 older brothers were there at the same time as well. I hope my age doesn't offend you. Let's just say I was born in the 60s.
