Have you had a family member try to get money from you through lying?

So yesterday a family member of mine who I'm not even close to and almost never see messaged me on Facebook asking me to send him $100 because he was "stranded." I was already skeptical about him asking for that much, which I wasn't going to give him anyway, so I asked him if there was anyone who could pick him up which he replied no and I knew that was a lie. So I told him I wasn't comfortable giving him money and he still tried asking me how much I could give him so I just didn't reply anymore. First of all, if you're stranded somewhere you're supposed to call someone you know or the police. Not message someone on Facebook asking for money. Does he think I'm stupid? Lol and apparently he does this to other people too. I've never had a family member do this to me before. I knew there was a reason I always had bad vibes about him. Have you ever had a family member or even a friend lie to you or make up a story in order to get money from you?

He’s probably a drug addict or something, because in my experience, when someone did this to me.. that was the reason. I wouldn’t be surprised.

I was told he pays to talk to women online and he always gets his Facebook accounts h*cked so he has to make new ones and keeps sending me and other people friend requests. It's really annoying.

I was thinking the same thing. My dad is a drug addict and used to make up some sob story about how his electricity or water or something was about  to be shut off in order to get a couple hundred bucks off me. The last and final time I fell for his lies my mom and I followed him home soon after he borrowed it from me, and lo' and behold there was his dealer's car in the driveway. Never again. He hasn't bothered me since I've moved to Japan cause he has no way to contact me. I hope he's not bothering my other siblings too much.

It sounds like your family member is just an addict with a different type of addiction. It's scary how easily and guilt-free they can lie to get their fix.

Yep. As soon as he asked if I could give him $100 I knew something was up. Don't trust anyone who asks you for that much money out of nowhere. Sketchy lol

My 'Dad' always used to borrow (and not give back) money from me for the most ridiculous reasons, when it was actually used for drinking or gambling. This was also when I was a single Mam in my early 20s. Pleased, for many many reasons, that I have nothing to do with him anymore.

How very abhorrent of him. I'm too prideful to do that to my k'ids let alone anyone.
